Post Hurricane Rita Update:
Hurricane Rita has disrupted business as usual in the
Texas and Louisiana area. Your Union representatives will
be available to assist our members who have been affected
by this storm or may have other issues that we can assist
you with.
Natural disasters such as Hurricane Rita affect not only
the company we work for, it affects the lives of our
co-workers that live in the path of the storm, including
our family and friends. Our Union is made up of many hard
working individuals that have always chipped in to help
their fellow co-workers after disasters such as Hurricane
Rita. Your Union representatives will be available in the
crew rooms and also by telephone to assist our members.
If you are not currently scheduled to fly and would like
to help get operations back into full swing, we would like
to suggest that you either pick up open time flying, call
scheduling to see if they can utilize you, or call your
base duty desk to see if your assistance is needed.
Houston Mayor Bill White and County Judge Robert Eckels
have stated publicly that aviation personnel from the city
are considered “essential personnel” and that they will be
needed to help in this recovery effort.
As a reminder, and at the company’s request, the FAA has
given CAL permission to fly our 737’s with only 2 crew
members and 757-200’s with 3 crew members for the next few
days.
Due to the impact of Hurricane Rita, talks in Atlanta
scheduled to begin September 26, were cancelled.
We will advise you when new dates have been scheduled for
mediation talks. Thank you for your support.
