The Update Message from the International
Association of Machinists representing Continental,
ExpressJet and
Continental Micronesia
Flight Attendants in the 2339 Local Lodges
Friday, February 17, 2006
The Union
has been receiving
complaints
regarding the implementation of some items in the newly
ratified agreement. The Union has brought these issues to
the attention of the Company for resolution. Please notify
a Union representative of any issues you believe that are
not being addressed in the new agreement so that we may
facilitate compliance.
Representatives from District 142
and Continental Micronesia management will meet in Honolulu
beginning on February 20, 2006, to commence negotiations on
a new agreement. We will update you with information as it
becomes available.
ExpressJet
Management recently issued
a memo to address what flight attendants should do if they
need aircraft cleaning services in the early morning hours
at their hub stations. Some members believed that this was
a change to their duties on-board the aircraft in regard to
cabin tidying. District 142 representatives have confirmed
with Company management that the memo does not change or
increase your responsibilities for cabin tidying. If you
have any issues that arise from this policy memo please
notify your local Union representatives for assistance.
Northwest
Airlines’ bankruptcy court judge
has put off until next Friday, February 24th, a
decision whether to toss out union contracts. The
Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that, “Today was
the deadline for the airline and the pilots and flight
attendants to reach agreements or risk having existing
contracts thrown out by a bankruptcy judge. But Allan
Gropper, the judge in Northwest’s bankruptcy case, decided
Thursday to give the two sides one more week to find common
ground.”
Delta
Airlines on Tuesday reported
a $3.8 billion loss for all of 2005. The loss includes $1.6
billion in charges related to reorganization and pension
expenses. Chief Financial Officer Ed
Bastain said the losses emphasize the airline’s need
to improve its network and revenue stream. Separately, the
airline asked a bankruptcy court judge to allow it to
renegotiate 88 airplane leases.
United
Airlines said it will strengthen
its presence at Denver International Airport. The airline
will add 32 departures. United has reduced the amount of
time it takes to board and clean aircraft in Denver by
changing the way it uses gates and planes.
