The Update Message from the International Association of Machinists representing Continental, ExpressJet and
Continental Micronesia
Flight Attendants in the 2339 Local Lodges

Friday, April 7, 2006

Your IAM Local Lodge and District Representatives would like to welcome all new- hires at Continental Airlines and ExpressJet to our flight attendant ranks.  We encourage you to drop by the Grievance Desk in your crew room and meet your Union representatives.  Also be sure to familiarize yourself with the location of the Union bulletin board to learn more about the IAM, your local lodge, and the meeting date and time of the monthly business meeting.  We look forward to serving you and Welcome Aboard!

Continental Micronesia Flight Attendants Complete Voting on Tentative Agreement - The results of the ratification vote will be announced once the District Lodge has certified the vote count.  Your Negotiating Committee wants to thank you for your continued solidarity and support.

The IAM will sponsor a Flight Attendant Conference May 30th through June 2nd, 2006, at the IAM William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in Hollywood, MD.  Participants will include your Local Lodge Officers and Grievance Committee Members as well as any flight attendant members who want to attend on a voluntary basis.  Transportation to and from the conference will be provided along with meals and lodging.  Topics at the conference will include contract familiarization, the Family Medical Leave Act and the history of the Union movement in America.  If you would like to attend please contact your Local Lodge President as soon as possible so we can plan for the number of interested participants.  We look forward to seeing you!

Fuel Prices Could Slow Airlines’ Return To Profitability - Higher fuel prices could continue to hurt the airline industry and stall its return to profitability, analysts say. On Wednesday, oil prices climbed to $67 a barrel. "Higher fares are helping, but I'd become more concerned if [oil] goes over $70 and stays there," said Ray Neidl, an analyst with Calyon Securities.

Delta Pilots Authorize Strike - Delta Air Lines pilots voted to authorize a strike in the event that an arbitration panel voids their contract with the company. A ruling is expected from the panel by April 15.

United Rescinds Increase On Business Fares - United Airlines rescinded a $50 increase on one-way business fares after other carriers declined to match it, a spokeswoman said. The airline kept smaller increases on other fares in place.

Air France To Test In-flight Mobile Phone Use - As in-flight mobile phone use gets closer to becoming a reality, Air France has announced plans to test OnAir's GSM-based service on one of its aircraft early next year. OnAir hopes the test will lead to expanded voice and data communications offerings for passengers on Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

We would like to encourage all members to attend your Local Lodge business meeting.  Each base must have a quorum to conduct business. The following is a schedule for upcoming meetings:

: Tuesday, April 11th, 3:00 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel.

Cleveland: Thursday, April 13th, 4:00 p.m. at 669 North Rocky River Drive.

Guam: Wednesday, April 19th, 4:00 p.m. at the Airport Conference Room.

Houston: Wednesday, April 26th, 1:00 p.m. at 15710 JFK Blvd.
