IAM District 142 Celebrates the 49-Year Career of William O’Driscoll – More than 300 Union and Company officials gave tribute to the long and distinguished career of District 142 President-Directing General Chairperson William O’Driscoll last night in Queens, New York.  “O’D” began his airline and labor career at TWA in 1957.  “He has changed the lives of thousands of workers in the air transportation industry for the better,” said IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger.  Transportation General Vice President Robert Roach, Jr. said, “Bill, you have been my mentor, champion and friend for the past thirty years.  You taught me to stand up and fight for the rights and conditions of our members.  You will always be in my heart.”  For all of us who have had the honor and extreme pleasure to work with O’D share that sentiment – You will ALWAYS be in our hearts.  Thank you for all you have done to improve the lives of our members.  We wish you a long and healthy retirement!

Continental Airlines Takes Delivery Of Fifth New 737- 800 This Year – Continental has taken delivery of aircraft 505, a Boeing 737-800, which is the fifth new aircraft added to Continental’s fleet this year.

Northwest Attendants Ask Board To Declare Impasse – Northwest Airlines flight attendants have asked the National Mediation Board to release them from contract talks and declare an impasse. An impasse may trigger a 30-day countdown to a potential strike. Northwest says it wants to continue talks with the attendants.

Mesaba Sets Deadlines For Contract Agreements With Unions – Mesaba Airlines says its labor unions must agree to new contract agreements within one week or the airline will ask a judge to void its current contracts. The company, which operates under bankruptcy protection, has negotiated with the unions for nine months.
