Welcome CA Flight Attendants

CommutAir Flight Attendants Vote:

Welcome to all of the CommutAir Flight Attendants.  You have made the first step in the process of becoming a strong unified voice.  The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (the largest transportation union in the U.S.) filed for a representational election with the National Mediation Board - a government agency.  The election dates are 12:01 am ET, January 3, 2008 thru January 24, 2008 - the count will take place at 2 pm ET on January 24th.  Information packets will be mailed to each flight attendant on January 3, 2007 from the National Mediation Board.   The election has been scheduled; it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that not only you participate in the election but that your co-workers do the same. If there is not enough participation in the election - the vote will be declared invalid and you will be barred for 1 year from having a union.

Make no mistake about it, CommutAir does not want you to be union - they enjoy the ability to pay you what they want, work you how they want, and to get rid of you when they want. They will try very hard to convince, threaten, or otherwise bribe you to not vote.  Your management desperately wants to continue the disparate, and willful mistreatment of you and your co-workers. Do not be intimidated - print off the information below and keep it with you. It is very important that you know your rights under Federal Law when it comes to unionizing.  If your rights are violated, fill out the "Record the Facts" form below and send it to us immediately.  This is your time to empower yourselves and take responsibility for charting your future - we want to help you do this! You will be joining Continental, ExpressJet, and Gulf Stream Flight Attendants united in a common cause - fighting for your rights and benefits.  The future is now, seize the day!

IAM Files For Election

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the IAM, filed for an election with the National Mediation Board for the CommutAir Flight Attendants on November 20, 2007. This signals the official, government sanctioned election process for the Flight Attendants to secure representation and to improve wages, benefits and working conditions.

CommutAir is required by law to supply a list of employees who are eligible to participate in the election. This was done on Monday December 3, 2007. We will now go through the list to verify that all who are eligible get a ballot, and to remove any persons who should not be on the list.

Following these steps, the Mediation Board will schedule official dates for a telephone voting process to occur, eligible voters will also have the option of voting online. Exact dates and instructions will be announced when they are known.

This also signals the start of CommutAir’s anticipated effort to prevent you from having an official, fair and secure voice in the workplace. The company has hired one of the most anti-worker consulting firms doing business in the USA, Ford and Harrison.

The hiring of this outside, third party consultant means you can expect CommutAir management to hold one-on-one meetings intended to intimidate you and identify union supporters. Most assuredly you will also receive distorted, anti-union literature and experience management monitoring employee activities and using intimidation up to the line of breaking the law (perhaps even going over the line).

We give you this information not to scare you, but to have you ready for what may come. If it doesn’t, and CommutAir allows you to have a vote without intimidation – all the better!

This is an exciting time! Do not allow your legal rights to be challenged. Don’t listen to rumors or anti-employee rhetoric. And, don’t lose sight of the goal – better pay, better benefits, a voice in the workplace, and job security. Watch for more official IAM information coming your way soon.

A BETTER FUTURE IS JUST A VOTE AWAY!
